Missing citations
The sources cited in answers where competitors appear and you do not, ranked by how much each one matters.
The sharpest list in the product
Citations > Missing citations answers one question: which sources are powering answers that include your competitors and leave you out?
Every row is a source that AI already trusts on your topics and that currently works against you. Earning a presence there, a mention, a listing, a review, changes answers you are losing today.
How rows qualify
Recited looks at answers where at least one competitor is named and your brand is not, and collects the sources those answers cited. Sources that only ever appear in answers naming you do not qualify; this list is strictly the ground you have not covered.
You can view the list three ways: by domain, by host with subdomains kept separate, and by individual URL. A Group subdomains toggle controls whether related hosts roll up.
The columns
| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Kind / Format | What type of site or page it is |
| Cites them | The competitors named in answers that cite this source and leave you out |
| Priority | How much this source matters: how often AI pulls it, times how many competitors it names |
| Pulls | How many times AI pulled this source into answers that left you out |
| Prompts | How many of your prompts it affects |
Priority is the sort that matters. A source pulled constantly and naming many competitors outranks one pulled twice for a single rival. Priority and pulls also show change since the previous scan, and here down is good: a shrinking number means the gap is closing.
Working the list, top down
- Open the source. Read the actual page. Is it a comparison article, a directory, a community thread, a review site?
- Match the move to the format. Directories and review sites usually have a submission path. Comparison articles have authors you can contact. Community threads reward genuine participation.
- Track the delta. After you earn a mention, watch the row. Falling priority means answers that cited this source now include you too.
Relationship to opportunities
The source-gap detector in content opportunities is built on this same analysis. The difference: this page shows you every gap so you can act on any of them, while opportunities scores the gaps against everything else you could do and drafts content for the winners. Use this page for outreach, and opportunities for writing.
